Zentralkomitee, Central Committee (CC)

The Central Committee (CC) was the highest leadership organ of the SED between the party congresses. In day-to-day life however, the power lay with the Secretariat of the Central Committee (CC), which performed the on-going tasks, with the Politburo and with the Secretary-General of the party.
According to the protocol, the members of the Central Committee (CC) were ranked higher than the ministers, secretaries of the Central Committee (CC) had the authority to instruct ministers.

In 1989, the Central Committee (CC) consisted of 165 members and 57 candidates.
On 3rd December 1989, the Central Committee (CC) resigned jointly.
