Zentralrat der FDJ (Central Council of the FDJ)
The Central Council of the FDJ (Free German Youth), consisting of around 120 to 130 members was elected by the parliament of the FDJ. The secretariat elected by the Central Council consisted of 11 secretaries which managed the practical operations under the leadership of the 1st Secretary. Amongst the 1st Secretaries of the FDJ were Erich Honecker and Egon Krenz. Around 400 full-time employees worked in the organisation of the central Council. At the time of the changeover, the 1st Secretary of the FDJ was called Eberhard Aurich. On 24th-25th November 1989, the central Council replaced the previous leadership.
