The ecological movement of the GDR which emerged in the autumn of the "Wende" and which consisted of many groups, decided with a majority not to found a party. Therefore the Grüne Liga drew up its constitution on 26/11/1989 a group which saw itself as a cross-party parent association of the environmental movement in the GDR. The founding meeting took place on 3/2/1990 in Schkopau near Halle.
