Schwarzer Kanal (Black Channel)

Schwarzer Kanal (Black Channel)

Propaganda television broadcast of the hard-liner journalist Karl-Eduard von Schnitzler. Political, social occurrences, events and statements of the "class enemy" were commented with a demagogical, cynical and self-satisfactory note.

This affectation gained the commentator the name of "Sudelede" (Wallowing Eddy). The "Schwarze Kanal" was broadcast for almost 30 years every Monday night on GDR television, a total of 1,519 broadcasts in total. In his last broadcast on 30/10/1989, Karl-Eduard von Schnitzler said goodbye with the words: "It therefore requires the art of doing the right thing correctly, quickly and believable. In this sense, I will continue my work as a communist and journalist for the only alternative to the inhuman capitalism: As a weapon in the class war, for the promotion and defence of my socialist fatherland. In this sense, my dear audience and comrades - until we meet again!"
